Hilja began with deep green paint and nearly three hundred small wooden pieces. Each one is painted by hand, one at a time, with a brush. Together, they create a surface that seems to be constantly shifting.
Her colour changes with the light - sometimes deep and saturated, sometimes softer, greyer and more subdued. From morning to evening, shadows move between the wooden pieces, while up close the natural grain and growth rings quietly reveal themselves.
Hilja is large and calm in character, but she is far from shy. Pair her with some mustard, rich pink or another bold accent, and her depth really comes into its own.
She may be quiet, but she knows how to hold a room.
